Here's an assortment of newspaper articles from 1907 to 1948 touching on the importance of the buttonhook as a useful household object. Based on these articles, the buttonhook was still in common use during the 1920s, but by 1934 the future of the buttonhook was in question. The final article indicates that by this time they were considered obsolete.
